Getting started

• Click "Settings..." to change the way the drill works — you can decide to build chords, identify them on the staff, or identify them by sound. You can also control which chords you'll be asked, and if sounds will play.
• Click "Start Drill" to see your first question.

If you chose "Build chords on staff":

• You'll see a blank staff, and the name of a chord. Add in the notes to make the chord one at a time, by clicking on the note button you need, then clicking on the staff.
• If you get it right, you'll get another chord to build. If you try adding a wrong note the drill will "shake", and you can try again.
• Hints: you can click "Play chord" to hear the chord, or "Give up" to see the answer and go on to the next question.

If you chose "Identify chords on staff":

• You'll see a staff with a chord on it. Identify the chord by selecting it from the choice boxes.
• If the chord is a triad (with 3 notes in it), select the type of triad from the "Triad?" choice box, then pick the inversion from the "What inversion?" choice box.
• If the chord is a seventh chord (with 4 notes in it), select the type of seventh from the "Seventh chord?" choice box, then pick the inversion from the "What inversion?" choice box.
• If you get it right, you'll get another chord to identify.
If you were wrong the drill will "shake", and you can try again.
• Hints: you can click "Play chord" to hear the chord, or "Give up" to see the answer (then click "Go Ahead" when you're ready).

If you chose "Identify chords by sound":

• You'll see a blank staff and hear a chord played. Identify the chord by selecting it from the choice boxes.
• If the chord is a triad (with 3 notes in it), select the type of triad from the "Triad?" choice box, then pick the inversion from the "What inversion?" choice box.
• If the chord is a seventh chord (with 4 notes in it), select the type of seventh from the "Seventh chord?" choice box, then pick the inversion from the "What inversion?" choice box.
• If you get it right, you'll get another chord to identify.
If you were wrong the drill will "shake", and you can try again.
• Hints: you can click "Play chord" to hear the chord again, or "Give up" to see the answer and go on to the next chord.

• When you're done working, click "Stop Drill".

Using your keyboard

If you chose "Build chords on staff":

You can quickly choose the note you need using the keys 1-5:
1 = double-flat, 2 = flat, 3 = natural, 4 = sharp, 5 = double-sharp.

If you chose "Identify chords on staff" or "Identify chords by sound":

Identify the triad type using this letter:
Major, miNor, Augmented, Diminished (sorry, no shortcuts for 7th chords...)
...and select the interval using numbers, 1 = unison, 2 = second, and so on.
Identify the inversion using 0 or 'r' for root position, and 1-3 for first through third inversion.
